Minth Group is bringing 1,300 jobs to Gadsden through a $430 million dollar manufacturing campus. Minth is a high-quality plastic and aluminum automotive supplier that is Taiwan-based. The site will be the largest for their company in the US with around 1 million square feet of manufacturing space.
Nyad, a Birmingham company, has launched AI to fill the gaps of water treatment plant decision makers to supplement workforce losses in the field and to handle more complex systems. This comes soon after their recent $1.3 Million in oversubscribed pre-seed funding. Nearly half of the workforce in U.S. Wastewater is expected to retire within the next decade. The goal is for AI to provide real-time numbers and safety procedures.
The Alabama house passed bill HB517 that would establish the Talent Readiness and Industry Needs act and allow businesses to collaborate with educational institutions to provide career and technical education training. Industry employees could get a certificate to be able to teach curriculum within community colleges or high schools, a tax credit would be given to companies that allow employees to do so. It is on the way to the Senate.
The Alabama legislature is also looking at bill HB183 which would allow homeschooled students to participate in any career development class or program offered by a public school. This would give home-schooled Alabamians the connections to the industry that they need.
Tuscaloosa city school district has launched their ‘CEO program’ standing for Creating Entrepreneurial opportunities. This program is launched for 11th and 12th graders in the district. 35 business leaders are signed up to spend a class period with the students and discuss entrepreneurial and workforce strategies. The students will also go visit the companies, local businesses, and learn how to create their own business. The funding for this program comes from innovate Alabama, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Tuscaloosa Education Foundation.
